“… Sia noto a Roma
ch’io son l’istesso, e ch’io
tutto so, tutti assolvo e tutto oblìo.”
following my recent role as Alfredo at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome and as Don Ottavio at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, I am proud to confirm my debut in the title role of Mozart’s last masterpiece, La Clemenza di Tito, at the Teatro del Maggio in Florence from March 20th to 27th.
This opera was specially composed by Mozart to celebrate the coronation of Leopoldo II of Habsburg as King of Bohemia and is a magnificent homage to this enlightened sovereign. I find Mozart’s Tito utterly captivating: a wise, unvindictive emperor, entirely devoted to the common good. How fine it would be to have governors of such moral stature nowadays!
This is the successful production which was performed at the end of 2017 at the Palais Garnier in Paris with stage direction by Willy Decker. In Florence I will be singing with wonderful colleagues under conductor Federico Maria Sardelli. Believe me, I couldn’t wish for a better role debut!
